As of the 23rd February The Civic has yet to offered a lease, or Heads of Terms as to what may be in a lease.

We have signed a Tenancy of Will which is a document that allows to ocuupy the building whilst a lease is prepared, but it is not a lease – and bears no resemblence to the lease we had.
It is not an extention to the lease as has been publicly stated – it is a completely different arrangement and allows for us to be removed at zero notice.

As many of you will know our Landlords at Stourport Town Council put the Lease of the Civic Hall out for Expressions of Interest at the start of October.

The Town Council have informed us that we had been succesful in our efforts and that a new lease will be offered to The Civic in the New Year.
The current lease has been extended for a few months whilst we look at the new lease, and what it contains.
All of us at The Civic would like to thank everyone who signed the petitions, sent in letters or emails of support, who flooded various Facebook pages and groups with comments, and for backing us.
Your support was not only massive, but vital, and you made it hard for the Council to ignore your voices.
Thank you

An update:
We have submitted our Expression of Interest in The Civic Lease, and we have had an acknowledgement to say its been received.
Alongside our proposal detailing amongst other elements our current business plan, the value that we create, and the opportunities we provide, there was also a petition with over 300 signatures, and around 100 letters of support from volunteers, hirers, customers, and perfomers.
The level of support has been fantastic and we thank you for it – the letters and emails have been uplifting and, at times, quite emotional to read.
We will have to wait and see what happens next as the Town Council have not been forthcoming to us about the process or the expected timeline.
Once again, in these uncertain times, the Trustees and Management Team would like to thank you for your support, and hopefully we will be able to update you shortly.28th October

Dear All,

Around 12 Years ago a group of local volunteers came together to “Save The Civic”. They became The Civic Group – this is our website.

We worked hard to take an unloved, underused space, and turned it around on its way to becoming the venue it is today!

We were successful in saving the building, but after a problem was found Stourport Town Council took on the ownership of the venue, and we entered into a lease with them.

This lease is due to expire on 31st December 2022.

Although we have been in discussions and negotiating with Stourport Town Council since February about the lease, The Town Council have decided to publicly solicit expressions of interest from Community Groups for a new lease.

We have formally expressed our interest in a new lease and are waiting to hear what the next steps will be.

That is about as much as we can say at the moment as we don’t know anymore ourselves.
We will say more in due course – and we will share with you over the coming days and weeks why we believe we are the right people to take on the new lease – and we want YOUR Views.
We took on the venue for the community of Stourport – so YOUR views matter to us. So please feel free to comment below, send us an email (info@thecivicstourport.co.uk), write us a letter, add your photos to our Facebook or Google or wherever.
